How Long Will My Battery Last
How long will my battery last for,
This is probably one of the most common questions we receive. Unfortunately, it is also one of the hardest to answer. Battery life has so many variables to consider including: how batteries are used, how they are maintained and charged, temperature, and a plethora of other factors. Anyone living where the heat gets a bit insane knows that your battery self discharges quicker, whereas those that live in cooler climates know that, as long as the battery doesn’t freeze, the self discharge is negligible. If you rapid charge your battery frequently it shortens the life of your battery. Granted there are scientists working to remove this limitation I just haven’t heard of any real successes yet. Battery life is measured in cycles. How many cycles depend on the chemistry and composition of the battery as well as the other factors I previously mentioned. I know that my AAA NiMH batteries that I use in my mp3 player are somewhat abused by me and I can expect around 1000 cycles out of them. Give or take a few for my roughness and playing my mp3 player as loud as I do at times. My last set of 6 batteries lasted me about 4 years. Only time will tell how long the new batch of 8 will last, as these batteries have had a few more years worth of advancements and are also a higher capacity battery so I don’t need to recharge them as frequently.
