Deep Cycle Batteries
Batteries, Help, Information, News, Questions, Reviews, Tips
Often times you’ll hear about Deep Cycle batteries. Car batteries are mainly there for starting the car. This takes a surprisingly high current, up to 400 amps for a big engine on a cold day. The way they accomplish this is by having a lot of very thin plates so there is a lot of surface area. This allows them to discharge quickly, but they are easily damaged by deep discharging. Car batteries are normally rated for only 5-10 deep discharges, sustaining damage with every one of them. Deep discharge batteries are designed to put out less peak current, but they have thick plates that can be charged and discharged many times without corroding or falling to pieces. Marine batteries are Deep Cycle batteries.
