How to Connect a Series of Batteries for Higher Voltage

Help

Although many people know how to do this, we do get this question from time to time. In order to set up a “series” of batteries, the positive terminal of the first battery is connected to the negative terminal of the second battery; the positive terminal of the second is connected to the negative of the third, etc. So the batteries are connected: + to - to + to - to + to -, etc.

The voltage of the assembled battery is the sum of the battery voltages of the individual batteries. So if you need 24-volts you hook 2 12-Volt batteries or 4 6-volt batteries in “series”. The capacity of the battery is unchanged. Hopefully this will help some of the confusion.
