Battery History
The battery has been around for along time. Even though Alessandro Volta is usually the one credited for giving us this device in 1800, there have been ancient battery cells found in Sumerian ruins, dated all the way back to 250 BC. It seems that the first use of these was for electroplating various items; however that’s up to debate. Seems the ancients used a clay jar, and stopper made from asphalt with an iron rod surrounded by a copper cylinder. They then added an electrolytic solution, possibly vinegar, to produce around 1.1 volts of electricity. Good to know one of the greatest inventions in history was designed to make cheap jewelry, lol.
